The reason why you got dental implants is that you probably lost your teeth because of poor oral hygiene. But how does one care for his or her dental implants?
- Follow your dentist's instructions. After the procedure, take notice of what your dentist told you. Make sure that you follow everything your dentist said. You may be required to eat nothing but soft food during the first week after your surgery. Do not risk your implants by forcing yourself to eat solid foods. There might be stitches that must be removed first before you can go back to your normal diet.
- Have better oral hygiene. You need to be stricter with your oral hygiene this time around. Since your natural teeth have been replaced by artificial objects; infections or symptoms can be more difficult to detect.
- Brush and floss regularly. Brush your natural and artificial teeth, gums and surrounding area at least twice a day. Make sure that you floss regularly as well because failure to floss is one of the leading causes of implant failure.
